The “Parametric chassis” technology originated in the late 1990s, developed by Dimitrios Hatzikakidis. The basic notion was to build a chassis for a vehicle, utilizing a “suspension module”, which would serve the springing and damping requirements of the vehicle. Four such “modules connected together” can produce any layout in terms of wheelbase and front/rear track dimensions, thus, a “parametric” chassis. By connecting the four suspension modules to form the frame of the vehicle, the resulting vehicle can be made lighter, more structurally rigid, and developed across similar platforms at lower cost, while allowing upgradeability and improved crash characteristics. The potential of offering an originally “very low cost platform” which has upgradeability “built-in”, was the first design advantage of the technology acknowledged during the first years of development. After the early R&D undertaken by Hatzikakidis and his international team, a US Patent for the “parametric chassis” was awarded in 2011. ((US Pat Νο 8083245) ). In 2013 the Parametric Chassis technology was singled out in the SEV/Eurobank Innovation competition. In 2014 the first parametric chassis was exhibited in the Metropole Motor Museum. In 2015 the Parametric Chassis technology was admitted in the EGG innovation accelerator platform run by Corallia/Eurobank. Ellenic Vehicle Research Ltd and Dr Hatzikakidis have developed a number of technology (demonstrators ) and prototypes on the Parametric Chassis technology, in addition to the patents granted in (Korea in 2013 ) and (Japan in 2015 ). The patent granted in Japan in 2015 has introduced the notion of the “Complementary Self Carrying body” that is built in conjunction with a “Parametric Chassis”, that allows reductions in vehicle weight. In 2014 the (“Modular sports car concept” ) was presented to showcase one application of the “parametric chassis technology”.
